At Microsoft, we believe technology is a powerful force for improving people’s lives. But technology can only change people’s lives when they have access to the capabilities it provides and the benefits it provides. Right now half the world does not. For them, the vast ocean of knowledge and opportunity that the technology revolution offers is out of reach. At Microsoft Philanthropies, we are working to change that. We’re investing our greatest assets—our technology, people, grants, and voice—to advance a more equitable world where the benefits of technology are accessible to everyone.
Last year, Microsoft employees gave over $142 million in donations to over 19,000 organizations around the world. We funded computer science education and digital literacy programs in 58 countries reaching over 15 million youth. And we donated over $465 million in Microsoft Cloud donations to over 71,000 nonprofits.
Through our partnership with the American Red Cross, Microsoft is dedicated to leveraging our strengths so that the organization has the resources it needs to deliver humanitarian relief efficiently and effectively, wherever and whenever it is needed. Since 1989, we have proudly donated in-kind software and cash contributions to help ensure the Red Cross has the infrastructure and technology to respond to disasters within a moment’s notice. Microsoft employees are integral to our partnership, standing side by side with the Red Cross to help people at home and around the world by making financial donations through employee giving campaigns, rolling up their sleeves to give life-saving blood and mapping vulnerable places in the developing world.
