    Life-threatening emergencies happen every day in the workplace, in our homes and in our community. Are you prepared to be the help until help arrives? The Red Cross Until Help Arrives course, developed in collaboration with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), will educate and empower you to take action and provide life-saving care when you are the first on the scene during an emergency.

    Until Help Arrives Course Content

    This non-certification, online course will provide the general public with the basic yet critical key actions that can be taken during a life-threatening emergency that can help sustain or save a life until EMS arrives. In this course, you will learn how to:

    Act with Confidence: Learn compression only CPR (no breaths) to save or sustain a life.

    Understand AED basics: Gain knowledge on where to find and how to use an AED.

    Identify and treat a choking incident: Quickly recognize a choking situation and learn what you can do to help.

    Proper treatment for life-threatening bleeding: Learn how to use pressure to stop bleeding as well as how to use a tourniquet and proper treatment after the bleeding stops.

    Respond to an overdose: Understand how to administer naloxone in an opioid overdose.

This abbreviated online course gives individuals with little or no medical training the confidence to act until help arrives.

    COURSE DESCRIPTION

    Until Help Arrives is an online course designed to equip students with the basic knowledge to assist trained responders during a life-threatening emergency. This non-certification* course provides the general public with the basic, yet critical key actions that can be taken during a life-threatening emergency that can help sustain or save a life until EMS arrives.

    Note: If certification is required to meet workplace or other regulatory requirements, it is recommended you enroll in an Instructor Led or Blended Learning FA/CPR/AED course.

    COURSE CONTENT

    • Compression-Only CPR (no breaths)
    • AED Education
    • Choking Education
    • Bleeding (Administering direct pressure and tourniquet)
    • Opioid Overdose (Administering naloxone)

    COURSE FORMAT

    Online only. Available via ROC (Request Online Class) for providers and via Redcross.org for individual community participants and via Request Online Class on Red Cross Learning Center for providers.
