In the face of crises like earthquakes, typhoons, conflict, severe drought, and famine, the American Red Cross and global Red Cross Red Crescent network join together to ease people’s suffering. Whether it’s a typhoon in the Philippines, a migration crisis in the Middle East, wildfires in Chile, or extreme cold weather in Mongolia, our teams are helping.
As part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, the Red Cross maintains a corps of trained disaster responders and strategically positions relief supplies worldwide to deliver immediate support. Our help is triggered by a request from the local Red Cross or Red Crescent team in the country affected and coordinated closely with our entire humanitarian network.
We deployed emergency specialists to 17 international disasters in 2020. View more stats.
Our warehouses are strategically positioned around the world. This enables the Red Cross to deliver lifesaving aid like tarps, blankets, water containers, hygiene items, shelter tools and cooking kits.
Thanks to our donors, the American Red Cross provides financial support for disaster relief efforts, enabling volunteers on the ground to quickly and efficiently address the most urgent needs of disaster survivors.
Red Cross disaster specialists help meet the immediate needs of people affected by global emergencies in areas like logistics, mapping, information management, communications, and operational leadership.
The Red Cross helps to reconnect families separated by international crises through our network of about 230 local American Red Cross chapters and more than 190 Red Cross and Red Crescent societies.
"The family messages transmitted by the American Red Cross can be very brief, but the three short words 'I am alive' may be all that is needed to ease the minds of distraught loved ones half a world away."
